Hi, I'm Grace!

About me

I’m a designer who values the frivolous, the comfortable, and the delightful just as much as the utility. I am inspired by:

Curiosity about human behavior, from daily rituals to how people interact with the world, rooted in observing the small traditions of my own Korean American household.

Growth, inspired by teaching students and helping my parents navigate technology, making complex systems approachable and understandable.

Craftsmanship and problem-solving, treating challenges like puzzles to create things that are well-made, clear, and meaningful.

My fine arts education and teaching experience shaped the values I hold as a designer and continue to inspire me to learn, experiment, and grow. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I approached making through critical experimentation, a mindset I carried forward into my UX Design certification from UCLA Extension.

As a teacher, I developed the ability to understand motivations and guide students toward meaningful outcomes, convincing a student who refused to read that reading can be fun. I strive to continue my journey by staying curious, embracing new challenges, and advancing my skills through ongoing learning and exploration.

Outside of design

My likes

I’m a dog person who loves ice cream (I can finish a pint in one sitting) and hope to learn how to make it at home.

My favorite color is green (specifically the Crayola green crayon)

My favorite artists are Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, David Hockney, and Wayne Thiebaud.

Making things

In my free time, I crochet, draw on Procreate, and watch character-driven sitcoms like Community and Schitt's Creek.

I’m inspired by publication design and often visit Skylight Books’ Arts Annex, the Last Bookstore, and Kinokuniya to browse.

Out and about

I enjoy going on walks and plan to hike every trail in Griffith Park. My favorite so far is West Trail.

I love to travel — I’ve been to Korea and India, and I hope to visit Vietnam, Thailand, and New Zealand.
